05 Jan Digital Marketing Direction for the New Year
Happy New Year! Now that it’s officially 2018, it’s time for a digital marketing review in order to get your website, social media, and other online efforts in shape for what the new year has to offer. If you want to take advantage of trends and new technologies, then start your research here.
Share Your Story on the Instagram Platform
You likely already know how big Instagram has become. This social media platform has exploded onto the scene in the past few years, and right now, “there are over 800 million Instagrammers — more than 500 million of whom use Instagram every single day, sharing more than 250 million piece of content each day.” A company without an Instagram account is missing out on some serious advertising opportunities, but they may also not know how to get started.
To begin with, make sure you know what your goal is on Instagram specifically. When you make an account, it has to be for a well-defined purpose. Are you looking to spread the word about your brand, or do you want to advertise to people who may then become customers? Whatever the case, keep this in mind as you craft your strategy. Without it, you are much less likely to find success.
Also, you want to make sure that at least some part of your target audience is using Instagram. If you are trying to connect with or sell to teens, then you’re in the right place. However, if you’re looking to gain more elderly customers, then Instagram is probably not the ideal platform.
Once you’ve defined your goal and have ensured that your market is on Instagram, the next step in your updated digital marketing plan for this platform is to make your profile as defined as possible. “Optimize” it by using your logo (or something similar) as your profile image, including a link to your website, and writing a bio that is informative within its short word count. There isn’t much space in this area, so choose every addition carefully!

Increase Your Content and SEO Efforts
Your digital marketing plan for 2018 should include a plan to become “part of the conversation” that takes place online between your website (and other marketing materials) and your potential customers. Content is more important now than ever, so you need to take the time to produce high-quality content and to refine what is already there.
Since the Internet has become most peoples’ preferred “marketplace,” you should have as polished a presentation on your website and online store as you would in a brick-and-mortar location (or as you already do in your physical location). However, for people to even be able to find that content, you have to make sure that your SEO, or search engine marketing, encourages Google to point your target market in the right direction. Otherwise, all your hard work might go unseen by browsing customers. This means that you have to find a balance of sprucing up your website and ensuring that it is optimized for Google and other search engines.
Go Live with Digital Marketing and Video Streaming
Finally, if you’ve never given it a try before, then consider video marketing. More companies than ever are reaching out to their client base via videos, whether it’s short ad-like spots on Instagram or live feeds on Facebook. “Like a window into the culture of your company, videos help develop trust with customers.” It may seem like something that doesn’t fit in with how your company does things, but there are a dozen ways to make video content that is in line with your brand. It may take time, but the results are an increase in trust from your customers after you give them some insight into the ‘personality’ of your business.
You may not have the tools in house to produce and edit video content, but there are a number of external sources that you can utilize in order to boost your business. Create a video strategy and find a way to make it happen and you’ll see results before long.
