10 Feb SEO Plan 2017: Local, Mobile, and Lightning Fast
It may be February already, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to put together a really solid SEO plan for the new year. With everything we as an industry learned in 2016 and with what trends seem to be developing based solely on the past month or so, it’s entirely possible to start now with the beginning of an entirely new strategy for your business, blog, and/or website.
Make Sure You’re Targeting Your Areas
“The state of SEO is ultimately in the hands of Google that’s perpetually tweaking and improving its algorithm for optimal user experience.” As time marches on, our strategies have to adapt and change based on this reason alone. Your SEO plan from last year isn’t likely to produce the same kinds of results now as a result of this fact. So, how do you craft an SEO plan that improves upon what worked in the past while also adjusting for current and upcoming trends?
For 2017, you want to start with a solid focus on local SEO. Since Google recently (in September) implemented changes that directly affect local searches, now is a key time to start focusing your keywords, descriptions, etc. to reflect your area(s) of business. The new algorithm, Possum, was a big change for the behind-the-scenes system and should not be taken lightly. Rather, this freshly-focused spotlight on location should be used to your advantage in order to promote whatever it is you offer within your area so that your potential customers can more easily find you!
It may seem daunting, but this is important stuff. Think outside the box when coming up with location-specific keywords. Eyler Creative, for example, might utilize some or all of the following:
- Digital marketing agency Baltimore
- Baltimore web design
- SEO strategy Baltimore, MD
And so on. Use all of your areas of expertise and all combinations of your city/cities and state in order to rank for the most results possible.
Include a Speed Boost in Your SEO Plan
Have you picked up your phone in the past hour? Almost definitely. Cell phones (smart phones) have become an integral part of all of our lives and the same is true of our professional lives. This is only a piece of why mobile optimization should be crucial to your SEO plan for 2017. “20 industry niches out of 24 see mobile as their first source of traffic,” and with more people than ever browsing primarily on mobile or tablets, this statistic is right on the nose.
Though you absolutely shouldn’t let your desktop site fall by the website, you want to make sure that working on that part of your site comes with additional efforts toward making it as mobile-friendly as possible. Some steps in the right direction include ensuring that your web design has been done with responsiveness in mind and that it is simple and clean in its layout and appearance so as not to overwhelm those browsing on a small screen.
Along the same lines, people expect both an easy-to-navigate site, no matter where they’re browsing… and they expect speed. People have very little patience for slow computers and will become frustrated and give up fairly quickly if your content is taking too long to load. Make sure that you do everything that you can in order to get the pages to them in a snap. “Research suggests that ’40 % of online shoppers will abandon a website that takes more than three seconds to load,'” which means that over one third of people browsing will abandon the hunt after a measly three seconds. It may seem unreasonable, but there’s no arguing with the majority. If you can’t beat ’em…
