Instagram for Business is a Crucial Next Step

Do you have an Instagram account set up for your company? Instagram for business is a more effective marketing tool than you may realize! Though it can often seem that Instagram is a platform for younger people to share photos and engage with celebrities, it’s actually a great place to make your business’s voice – and brand – heard.

Instagram for Business can be a Huge Asset

You may not have ventured into Instagram territory yet, or maybe you have, but you’re not really utilizing the platform. Don’t worry! It’s never too late to begin, and you can easily make a plan that suits your budget and schedule to best introduce your business and brand to the Instagram network. “Instagram is a great platform to come into contact and strengthen your relationship with your audience,” so read on to learn more about how you can accomplish those goals.

Is Instagram Right for You?

First off, of course, is the question of whether or not this platform is right for your business. Though some people might want to establish a presence on every social platform, that might not be the best move. “Instagram is a great platform for businesses (among others) that sell physical products, that have great photography as part of their core business, that are community-oriented or that have an informal approach to their audience.” Does that sound like it suits your needs and style? If not, then maybe consider other avenues in which you can channel your efforts.

Once you’ve established if this is the network for you, then you can get started. Once you’ve gone through the actual setup process, the next step should be to take a look at some of the kinds of posts added by your competitors or similar businesses. This will help to give you some idea of what is being shared, and what seems to do well with their target audience (which may be similar to yours).

Be Authentic and Highlight Your Brand

So, now you may have some ideas of what you’d like to post, but even when you start adding those photos and videos, it may seem like nobody is following your account or engaging with your content. Don’t worry: this takes time! Organic – or, unpaid – efforts are meant to be performed over time (3-6 months, generally), and so you shouldn’t expect major results in a few weeks.

During that time, you want to make sure you’re still posting high-quality content, even if you’re not sure anyone will see it. Make sure to add photos that are good quality and which highlight your products, services, staff, storefront, etc. in a flattering and appealing way. Also, try and be unique about your messaging and posts; your brand has personality, and helping it to shine through is the best way to appeal to your potential customers.

Post (with Hashtags) Regularly

As with everything, you should make sure that you’re posting consistently to the account (whether anyone is currently following you or not). You want to make sure that you’re adding content a few times a week, but not much more than that, so you don’t bug people by flooding their feed!

Also: don’t underestimate hashtags when you’re making your posts. This is the way that a lot of users find new accounts to follow, so utilize them (to a degree, without overdoing it) in order to help guide future customers to your page. For example, if you’re a Baltimore burger joint, you might use #baltimorerestaurants #bmoreburgers #charmcityeats or similar hashtags, though you should do some searching of your own to identify the popular ones.
